Vintage 1940s Smocked Twin Set Knitting Pattern – Women’s Jumper and Cardigan in 3 Ply Wool

A fresh take on a classic pair, this twin set blends effortless style with subtle structure.
Knitted mainly in stocking stitch, the pieces feature soft smocked gathers — at the
shoulder yoke of the cardigan and across the front yoke of the jumper — creating a
gentle bloused effect.

The jumper has a short buttoned placket and a neat Peter Pan–style collar, while the
cardigan is finished with a horizontally ribbed button band for a clean, tailored edge.
Three small buttons at the waist complete the look.

Worked originally in Sirdar Super Shetland Wool, 3 ply, you’ll need about 7 ounces
for the jumper and 9 ounces for the cardigan, using No. 14 and No. 12 needles.

Tension is 9 stitches and 12 rows to 1 inch in stocking stitch.

The jumper fits a 36–37 inch bust, measuring 19½ inches from shoulder to hem with a
5-inch sleeve seam. The cardigan measures approximately 38 inches at the underarms,
20 inches from shoulder to hem, and 18½ inches at the sleeve seam.
