This 1940s wartime dress sewing pattern can be made in two lengths for day or evening wear.
The bodice has a corseted shape with fabric gathered into the bust, creating a fitted waist and softly shaped upper bodice. The day version is finished with waist ties, while the skirt has a one-piece front and two-piece back.
The dress fastens with a placket at the left side. Make it at the shorter length for a day dress or use the longer version for evening wear.
No specific fabric recommendations are given with the pattern. Depending on the version being made, suitable choices could include rayon or viscose, cotton, lightweight wool or a silk-type fabric with enough drape for the gathered bodice.
The pattern is designed for a 36-inch bust. No waist measurement is stated in the original instructions, so the waist should be fitted during making.
Bust 36 inches.
