1950s–60s Raglan Sweater Knitting Pattern – Fringed Collar & Pockets, Bust 38–40

Dating from around the late 1950s or early 1960s, this knitting pattern is for a raglan sweater with a wide fringed collar and pockets.

It was originally knitted in Sunbeam 3 Ply Oiled yarn using old UK No. 9 (3.75 mm) and No. 7 (4.5 mm) needles. The pattern calls for 32 oz (approximately 910 g) of yarn.

I haven’t been able to establish a reliable modern equivalent for the original Sunbeam Oiled yarn, so I wouldn’t recommend choosing a replacement by the vintage yarn name alone. Try a tension square with a suitable modern 4-ply or DK yarn and use whichever gives the correct fabric and stated tension.

The pattern gives a tension of 9 stitches and 13 rows to one inch.

To fit bust: 38–40 inches.
