1950s Raglan Cardigan Knitting Pattern – Lace Stitch Detail, Bust 34–38

This vintage knitting pattern is for a raglan cardigan worked mainly in stocking stitch, with ribbed borders, waist welt, cuffs and neckline.

The distinctive feature is the decorative lace stitch worked along the raglan shaping, adding an open patterned detail across the shoulders and sleeves.

The original yarn was Marshgrove ‘Huski Knit’, with approximately 15–17 oz (426–482 g) required depending on size. The cardigan is worked on old UK No. 7 (4.5 mm) needles and fastens with eight buttons.

I haven’t been able to establish a reliable modern yarn weight for the original Huski Knit. The stated tension may suggest something around an Aran weight, but this is only a guide. When substituting yarn, work a tension square and choose the yarn and needle combination that gives the correct tension and fabric.

The stated tension is 4 stitches and 5½ rows to one inch.

Three sizes are included, to fit bust measurements of 34, 36 and 38 inches.
