1940s Wartime Day Dress Sewing Pattern – Two Styles, Bust 34

Price range: £10.49 through £19.99

This 1940s wartime sewing pattern includes two versions of an everyday day dress, or ‘all-day frock’, with a choice of long or short sleeves.

The dress has panelled front and back sections joined to an all-in-one yoke and sleeve. Darts shape the bust and waist, with a front neck opening and left side placket for fastening.

The pattern has been re-drafted in its original size for a 34-inch bust and 38-inch hip. As with many patterns of this period, a waist measurement isn’t given, so the waist should be fitted to the wearer during construction.

No original fabric recommendations are given. Suitable woven fabrics could include cotton or cotton blends, lightweight suiting, viscose/rayon and lighter wool blends. A tartan or check could also work, although the panel seams will require more careful pattern matching.

The original instructions are fairly basic, so an additional sewing guide is included to help with construction.

Bust 34 inches – Hip 38 inches.
