1940s Dress & Cape Sewing Pattern – Sunburst Dart Bodice, Bust 34″

An elegant 1940s dress with distinctive sunburst darts radiating from the centre front seam to shape the bodice neatly into the waist. The skirt has centre front and back seams, while a sash ties in a bow at the side to finish the fitted silhouette.

A matching shoulder cape is also included, constructed with a continuous shoulder and side seam. Small bands at the shoulders help keep the cape neatly in position when worn.

There are three dress variations. Style 1 has a high neckline with a front slit opening and long sleeves. Style 2 combines cap sleeves with a V-neckline, while Style 3 has the high neckline with cap sleeves.

The original pattern does not specify fabrics, but viscose, cotton, linen or wool crepe would all work well for the dress. For the cape, a fabric with a little more body, such as linen, suiting or another medium-weight woven fabric, would be a good choice.

The pattern is sized to fit a 34″ (86 cm) bust, 28″ (71 cm) waist and 37″ (94 cm) hip.
