1940s Shirtwaist Dress Sewing Pattern – Yoked Bodice & Pockets

This 1940s shirtwaist dress sewing pattern has short sleeves, a neat collar and a fitted bodice with front and back yokes. The bodice joins to a defined waistband, with a four-panel skirt and inverted pleat at the centre front.

Breast and hip pockets add to the practical wartime styling and can be left off if you prefer a simpler version.

The original pattern does not specify a fabric, which was not unusual for wartime patterns produced when clothing and materials were subject to rationing. Cotton, linen, chambray and similar medium-weight woven fabrics would all be suitable choices.

The pattern is for a 34-inch bust, 28-inch waist and 38-inch hip and is suitable for an advanced beginner or intermediate sewer.
