1940s Wartime Dress & Jacket Sewing Pattern – Draped Bodice, Bust 38

This 1940s wartime sewing pattern can be made as a dress on its own or with the matching unlined jacket.

The dress has a draped front bodice, softly gathered and joined to a centre front panel. The skirt is constructed with side panels and a one-piece back panel. There is a choice of short or long sleeves, both shaped with darts at the sleeve head to create a softly puffed effect.

The matching jacket has curved front edges, a patch pocket on either side and long sleeves shaped at the top in the same way as the dress.

As with many wartime patterns, no specific fabric recommendations are given. Suitable woven fabrics could include cotton, linen, viscose or rayon, lightweight wool and similar dress fabrics.

The pattern is drafted for a 38-inch bust, 31-inch waist and 42-inch hip and is best suited to an intermediate sewer.
