1940s Waistcoat Knitting Pattern – Two Women’s Styles, 34 & 36 Bust

Two 1940s knitted waistcoats, both straightforward designs that would make a good choice if you’re fairly new to vintage knitting.

View A is worked in a neat vertical ribbed pattern and is sized to fit a 36 in (91 cm) bust. View B fits a 34 in (86 cm) bust and has a more decorative lattice pattern across the front. Both are button-through, waist-length styles designed to be worn over a blouse or shirt.

The original yarn specified for both versions was Sirdar Super Shetland 3-ply wool. A modern 3-ply or light fingering-weight yarn giving the correct tension should make a suitable substitute.

The tension for both View A and View B is 9 stitches to 1 inch (2.5 cm).

A lovely practical 1940s pattern, and particularly useful if you’re looking for a smaller vintage project rather than committing to a full jumper.
