1940s Men’s Swimming Trunks Knitting Pattern – 3 Sizes

A practical 1940s men’s swimming trunks knitting pattern, worked in a firm slip-stitch stripe designed to help the fabric hold its shape when wet.

Every third stitch is slipped on alternate rows to create the dense striped texture, while the waist and legs are finished in rib for a close fit. The gusset is worked double for additional structure.

Instructions are included for three sizes: Small, Medium and Large.

The original pattern uses approximately 5 oz (150 g) of 3-ply yarn. As vintage 3-ply can differ from modern yarns, I recommend working a tension square before beginning, particularly if the trunks are intended to be worn in water.
