1950s Coronation Fair Isle Sweater Knitting Pattern – Bust 34–37

A Coronation knit from 1953, this Fair Isle sweater combines a plain lower section with a patterned upper body and short sleeves.
The original design uses soft Angora for the lower section, with the Fair Isle worked in contrasting colours of 3-ply yarn above. If you prefer not to use Angora, the pattern also allows the complete sweater to be knitted in 3-ply.
The pattern uses No. 11, No. 12 and No. 14 needles, with a stated tension of 8 stitches and 10 rows to one inch.
Two sizes are included, to fit bust measurements of 34–35 and 36–37 inches.
An interesting piece of 1953 knitting history, produced in the year of Queen Elizabeth II’s Coronation.
