1940s Women’s Cap Sleeve Sweater Knitting Pattern – 3-Ply, Bust 33

This late 1940s cap sleeve sweater has a neat fitted shape with a colourful patterned design worked in three contrasting shades. The original colour combination uses brown, coral and yellow, although it would work equally well in other colours.

Designed for a 33 inch (84 cm) bust, the sweater is knitted in 3-ply yarn using No. 9 (3.75 mm), No. 10 (3.25 mm) and No. 12 (2.75 mm) needles.

The original pattern requires approximately 7 oz (200 g) of 3-ply yarn. A modern 4-ply may also be suitable, but as vintage yarns differ from those available today, always knit a tension square before beginning.

The required tension is 8 stitches to 1 inch (2.5 cm) on No. 10 (3.25 mm) needles.
