Vintage 1930s Knitting & Crochet Pattern – Jumper, Hat & Scarf Set (Bust 32–33”)

This charming 1930s set combines knitting and crochet to create a coordinated jumper, hat, and
scarf that’s both practical and full of vintage character. The jumper is worked mainly in stocking
stitch, with a contrasting inset panel at the centre front that gives it a distinctive look. The scarf
is knitted to match and finished with a simple double crochet edging, while the hat is also knitted
and completed with a crocheted brim. The small round “spangles” are crocheted separately and
added afterwards, giving the set its signature detail.

Designed to fit a 32–33 inch bust, the finished width below the sleeves measures around 32 inches
and has a little natural stretch.

The original yarn used was Baldwin & Walkers 3-ply Ladyship Scotch Fingering, with 11 oz (312g) in
total, 9 oz (256g) in navy and 2 oz (57g) in a contrasting colour. You’ll need a pair of 3.25mm (No. 10)
and 2.25mm (No. 13) knitting needles, a set of 3.25mm double-pointed needles for the hat, a 3.25mm
crochet hook, and a stitch holder.

The gauge is quite fine, typical of the period, with 14 stitches and 20 rows to one inch in stocking stitch,
and 11 double crochet stitches measuring 2 inches across.
