This pretty 1940s bib front sweater has a choice of short or long sleeves, so you can make it in the version that suits you. The simple shape is given a little extra interest by the contrasting bib front and neat detailing.
It was originally worked in Sun-glo Shrinkproof or “Sunbeam” Super 3-ply fingering wool, using No. 10 and 12 needles. For the larger size, the No. 10 needles are replaced with No. 9.
The pattern fits a 32/34 or 36 inch bust. The finished length from the top of the shoulder to the lower edge is 19½ inches (49.5 cm), with a 5 inch (12.7 cm) sleeve seam. The tension is 7 stitches and 9 rows to 1 inch.
The original pattern calls for 6 skeins for the short-sleeved version and 8 skeins for the long-sleeved version. As the yarn and skein sizes are no longer readily available, these quantities are best treated as a guide when choosing a modern yarn.
