1950s Strapless Prom Dress & Cape Sewing Pattern – Ruched Bodice

This 1950 sewing pattern is for a prom or evening dress with a six-panel skirt, ruched bodice and a matching short cape.

The bodice is softly fitted and gathered up the centre front, with a row of petal-shaped details finishing the neckline. It can be made either strapless or with shoulder straps and fastens with a side zip.

The coordinating cape is constructed in two pieces and finished with a stand-up collar, giving you an additional cover-up to wear with the dress.

Suitable fabrics include dotted Swiss, cotton lace, silk or rayon crepe, organdie and taffeta, allowing for either a softer or more structured version of the design.
