1950s Pencil Skirt Sewing Pattern – Back Pleat, Waist 26 or 30″

A simple 1950s straight pencil skirt with a neat fitted waistband and a left-side zip fastening. A pleat at the centre back provides ease for walking while maintaining the narrow, fitted line of the skirt.

The pattern uses just three main pattern pieces, making this a relatively straightforward project and a good introduction to sewing a fitted skirt. Its simple construction also makes it suitable for grading or adjusting to fit if required.

Tweed, suiting, flannel and linen would all work particularly well, with the choice of fabric allowing you to make anything from a practical everyday skirt to a smarter tailored version.

26″ (66 cm) waist

30″ (76 cm) waist / 40″ (102 cm) hip
