1950s Aran Cardigan Knitting Pattern – Pockets, Bust 32–38

This 1950s knitting pattern is for an Aran-style button-front cardigan with patterned front panels and side pockets.

The Aran design is concentrated across the fronts, while the back and sleeves are worked in stocking stitch, giving the cardigan plenty of texture without carrying the pattern over the entire garment.

Originally knitted in Jaeger Spiral Spun Knitting Wool, a 100% wool double knitting yarn, the cardigan requires approximately 18–21 oz (510–595 g) depending on size.

The pattern uses old UK No. 9 (3.75 mm) and No. 7 (4.5 mm) needles, together with a cable needle and five buttons.

The stated tension is 5 stitches and 7 rows to one inch.

Four sizes are included, to fit bust measurements of 32, 34, 36 and 38 inches.
