1940s Wartime Thermal Undies Knitting Pattern Bust 35–37
£3.99 – £5.99Price range: £3.99 through £5.99
During the final years of the Second World War, practical knitted underwear remained an important part of everyday life. With clothing still in short supply after the war ended, many women knitted their own thermal undergarments to keep warm through the colder months.
This set includes a ribbed thermal vest and matching panties, designed to provide warmth while using relatively modest amounts of yarn. The original pattern was worked in approximately 6 oz (171 g) of 2-ply yarn using No. 10 (3.25 mm) and No. 12 (2.75 mm) knitting needles. If substituting 3-ply yarn, check your tension carefully before beginning.
The vest is designed to fit a 35–37 inch bust and measures approximately 30 inches from the top of the shoulder.
The matching panties are designed to fit 38–40 inch hips, with a 20-inch side length and a 5-inch leg seam to the gusset.
