1940s Wartime Service Knits for Airmen – Vintage RAF Knitting Patterns

This one’s for the Fly Boys! A great collection of wartime knits designed especially for airmen,
featuring a variety of practical garments that would have been welcome during long, cold
hours on duty.

The patterns include pullovers, a cardigan, helmets, fingerless gloves, a scarf, and wrist
warmers. Two different helmet styles are included – one that buttons neatly under the
chin, and another with ear openings designed specifically for use with headphones,
making it ideal for communication equipment used by aircrew.

All the garments were originally worked in Lister Lavenda 4-ply wool using No. 7 (4.5 mm),
No. 8 (4.0 mm), and No. 10 (3.25 mm) knitting needles.
