Such a pretty little jumper from the wartime years, with a delicate bow at the neckline, softly puffed short sleeves and a lovely textured pattern worked into the sides of the body and sleeves. It’s a very feminine style, with that neat, fitted shape so typical of 1940s knitwear.
I particularly like the little bow at the neck, which gives the jumper a lovely finishing touch without being too fussy. It would look just as nice with a simple skirt as it would with a pair of high-waisted trousers.
The pattern is knitted in 3-ply wool using old UK size 10 (3.25mm) and size 12 (2.75mm) needles. The original instructions are for a 32–34 inch bust, with an option to make a 36 inch bust by working on old UK size 9 (3.75mm) needles.
The stated tension is 7 stitches and 9 rows to 1 inch. As the larger size is achieved by changing needle size, it’s particularly important to knit a tension square and check your finished measurements before starting.
