1940s WAAF Wartime Pullover Knitting Pattern (Authentic WWII Women’s Auxiliary Air Force)

A genuine wartime service knit, originally designed especially for members of the W.A.A.F.
(Women’s Auxiliary Air Force) during the 1940s. This classic pullover reflects the practical
elegance and durability required for active service, making it a wonderful piece of knitting
history.

The pullover is worked entirely in rib, creating a close, comfortable fit that was both warm
and economical on yarn, an essential consideration during wartime rationing. It is knitted
on No. 9 needles, with the neckline carefully shaped using four No. 11 double-pointed
needles, resulting in a neat and authentic finish.

The original pattern recommends Paton’s Super or Beehive Scotch Fingering yarns, both
popular choices of the period for their strength and smooth stitch definition. You will
require 8oz (approximately 330g) of yarn to complete the garment.
