1940s Sailor Jacket Knitting Pattern – Double-Breasted Fitted Jacket – Bust 34

Price range: £3.99 through £5.99

A trim little 1940s sailor-style knitted jacket, designed with broad shoulders, a neatly nipped-in waist and smart tailored revers. The short fitted shape makes it an easy jacket to wear with shorts, slacks or a skirt.

The double-breasted front is finished with four buttons, while a row of machine stitching outlines the front edges, collar and revers, giving the jacket its particularly crisp, tailored appearance. Ribbed bands finish the short sleeves and waist.

The pattern is sized to fit a 34 in (86.5 cm) bust.

The yarn originally used was Patons Beehive Fingering 3-ply, approximately 8 oz (227 g). You will also need a pair of UK No. 11 (3 mm) knitting needles, buttons and a stitch holder.

The required tension is 8 stitches and 11 rows to 1 in (2.5 cm).

A lovely example of 1940s knitwear that combines the comfort of a knitted cardigan with the structured appearance of a short tailored jacket.
