1940s Ribbed Blouse Knitting Pattern with Lapel Collar – Bust 32–36 Inches

Price range: £3.99 through £5.99

This is a lovely 1940s knitted blouse with a surprisingly modern look. It has a fitted, ribbed body, short sleeves and a deep V neckline with knitted lapels, giving it the appearance of a little collared top rather than a plain jumper. The decorative clip shown at the neckline is a nice period touch, although it would look just as good worn open.

The blouse is knitted from the bottom of the front, continuing over the shoulders and down the back in one piece, so there are no shoulder seams. The sleeves are knitted separately and sewn in, and a simple crochet edging finishes the neckline and lapels.

There are three sizes included, for 32, 34 and 36 inch (81, 86 and 91 cm) busts. It is worked in 3-ply fingering wool, using approximately 7 oz (198 g) for the 32-inch size and 8 oz (227 g) for sizes 34 and 36. You will need 2.75 mm knitting needles and a 3.5 mm crochet hook for the edging.

The original tension is 9 stitches and 11 rows to 1 inch.

It’s the sort of 1940s knit that doesn’t really feel dated, fitted enough to wear tucked into high-waisted trousers or a skirt.
