1940s Dress Sewing Pattern – Surplice Crossover Bodice, Bust 34″

A pretty little 1940s frock with a softly shaped surplice bodice, gathered at the shoulders and fitted into a shaped waistband. The back is made in two sections, while side ties draw the waist in neatly and give the dress its flattering period shape. The short sleeves are softly darted at the top, adding a little fullness without making them overly structured.

The original pattern does not give any fabric recommendations, but viscose, wool or a wool blend, linen blend or cotton would all work well. A lightweight Ponte Roma could also be used if you prefer a fabric with a little stretch and an easier everyday finish.

The pattern is sized for a 34″ (86 cm) bust, 27″ (69 cm) waist and 38″ (97 cm) hip.
