1940’s Lace Jumper Knitting Pattern with Bow Collar

Price range: £3.99 through £5.99

A pretty lace jumper from 1946, featuring a contrasting garter stitch collar that ties into a generous bow at the neckline. The delicate lace pattern gives the jumper a lovely textured finish, while the gently puffed sleeves and fitted ribbed waistband create a flattering 1940s shape.

There are instructions for both short and long sleeves, so you can make a lighter version for summer or one with longer sleeves for cooler days.

The original pattern uses Patons Beehive Fingering 2-ply wool, knitted on old UK No. 10 (3.25mm) and No. 12 (2.75mm) needles. As modern yarns can differ from their vintage equivalents, it’s worth making a tension square before starting.

The tension is measured across the lace design, with one complete pattern repeat measuring 1¼ inches.

Designed to fit a 33–35 inch bust, the finished jumper measures 18½ inches from the shoulder, with a sleeve seam of 5½ inches for the short version or 18½ inches for the long version.

An attractive little jumper that would look just as good worn with a modern skirt or trousers as it would with an original 1940s outfit.
