This pretty 1930s jumper has a neat windowpane check pattern, finished with contrasting cuffs and a contrast band worked through the collar. A knitted bow at the neckline and a row of ten buttons down the centre front complete the design. It has a smart, fitted shape with a deep ribbed waistband and long sleeves. The finished jumper measures approximately 38 inches (96.5cm) around the bust.
The original pattern calls for 8 oz (227g) of Greenock Crochet Yarn in the main colour and 1 oz (29g) in a contrasting shade, together with UK No. 9 (3.75mm) and No. 10 (3.25mm) knitting needles. Ten buttons are required to match the contrast yarn.
I haven’t been able to confirm the ply of the original Greenock Crochet Yarn. Judging by the stated tension, a modern 4 ply/fingering-weight yarn may be a suitable starting point, but this is only an estimate. I strongly recommend knitting a tension square before buying your full quantity of yarn.
The original tension is 7 stitches to 1 inch (2.5cm) in width.
