This pretty 1930s jumper has a lace pattern worked across the lower part of the front and back and repeated on the short sleeves. The knitting changes to stocking stitch above the armholes, with a wide square roll collar in single rib, mitred at the corners, giving it that very distinctive 1930s finish.
The jumper measures 38 inches (96.5 cm) around the bust, so it would be best suited to a slightly smaller bust to allow for ease. Finished length is 19 inches (48 cm) at the front and 18 inches (45.5 cm) at the back.
It was originally knitted in 3-ply fingering wool, using around 6 oz (171 g), with UK No. 8 (4 mm) and No. 13 (2.25 mm) needles. The pattern also gives the option of leaving off the front roll of the collar for a simpler neckline.
It’s the combination of the lace, short sleeves and unusual square collar that makes this one particularly nice, decorative without being overdone.
