1930s Halter Neck Knitted Bathing Suit Pattern – Bust 34″

A lovely 1930s knitted bathing suit with a classic halter neckline and fitted trunk-style legs. Worked in a two-colour check design with contrasting halter straps and waist detail, it has a wonderfully sporty look typical of 1930s beachwear.

The original used Baldwin & Walker’s Ladyship ‘Holiday’ Wool. I can find no reliable information on the weight of this yarn, but judging by the needle size and tension it was probably similar to a modern 3-ply or 4-ply. I would recommend working a tension square with oddments before purchasing yarn.

You will need approximately 10 oz (285 g) in total – 6 oz (171 g) in cream and 4 oz (114 g) in blue – together with UK No. 11 (3 mm) and UK No. 12 (2.75 mm) knitting needles.

Designed to fit a 34 in (86 cm) bust.

Tension: approximately 8 stitches to 1 in (2.5 cm).
