1930s Brick Pattern Winter Jumper Knitting Pattern – Bust 34″

Price range: £3.99 through £5.99

A quick and fairly easy jumper to knit from 1938, with an attractive textured “brick” pattern that has the appearance of a basket stitch. The ribbed yoke and neat collar provide a lovely contrast to the textured body, finished with three buttons at the neckline.

The original yarn used was 15 oz (426g) of Sirdar Knitfast Wool, a heavier yarn that appears to be around a thick Double Knitting or Aran weight. As with any vintage yarn substitution, I would recommend knitting a tension square before starting rather than relying on the modern yarn category alone.

Worked on No. 10 and No. 8 old UK knitting needles, with three buttons required.

The original tension is 5 stitches to 1 inch in width.

When blocked, the jumper measures approximately 17 inches across both the front and back, so it should fit around a 34-inch bust.
