This lovely cardigan design dates from 1939 and has all the soft elegance you’d expect
from vintage knitwear. It’s worked in luxurious angora, giving the finished piece that
beautiful light, fluffy texture that angora is known for. The style is simple yet classic,
with neat ribbed welts and the main body knitted in smooth stocking stitch, creating
a flattering and timeless look that feels just as wearable today as it did in the late 1930s.
The pattern does require a little crochet knowledge, as crochet is used to finish the
button band and edges, adding a delicate and tidy final touch to the cardigan.
The original yarn suggested was Fleishers or Bucilla Imported Angora in 2-ply, supplied
in 10g balls. You’ll need knitting needles in sizes 2.25 mm and 2.75 mm. The gauge given
for the larger needles is 7 stitches and 9 rows to one inch.
This pattern is designed to fit a 34 inch bust, making it a wonderful project if you love
recreating authentic vintage garments.
