1920s Afternoon Frock Sewing Pattern – Drop Waist Dress with Two Sleeve Styles

Price range: £10.49 through £19.99

A lovely, simple afternoon frock from the early 1920s, with the relaxed silhouette so typical of the decade. The dress features a front and back with contrasting skirt insets at either side, a front basque, sash ties at the hips and a choice of bell or fitted sleeves.

It’s a fairly straightforward design to make, with plenty of scope for playing with contrasting fabrics. There are no original fabric recommendations, but wool crepe, Ponte Roma or a similar softly draping fabric could work well.

Measurements: Bust 32 ins (81 cm), Hip 35 ins (89 cm).

The pattern could also be graded up or down a size if required.

A note about the instructions: This is an early 1920s pattern, so you won’t find the lengthy step-by-step instructions familiar today. Instead, the pattern includes a construction diagram showing how the corresponding notches and seams fit together. It’s a relatively simple design, but some previous sewing experience would be helpful.

This pattern is available in three convenient formats:
