1950s Dog Coat Knitting Pattern – Small, Medium & Large

This 1950s knitting pattern is for a practical dog coat available in three sizes: small, medium and large.

The small coat is knitted in 4-ply yarn using old UK No. 9 (3.75 mm) needles and requires approximately 3 oz (85 g) of yarn. The finished coat measures approximately 19 inches wide when slightly stretched and 17 inches long.

The medium coat is worked in DK yarn on old UK No. 7 (4.5 mm) needles and requires approximately 6 oz (170 g). It measures approximately 23 inches wide when slightly stretched and 20½ inches long.

The large version is also knitted in DK yarn using old UK No. 7 (4.5 mm) needles and requires approximately 8 oz (227 g).

As the sizes are based on finished coat measurements rather than modern dog breed sizing, check the measurements against your dog before choosing which size to make.
