1930s Jumper-Coat Knitting Pattern Bust 34–35

Price range: £3.99 through £5.99

Some knitwear catches your eye because of its detail rather than its complexity, and this 1930s jumper-coat is a good example. The classic silhouette is brought to life with a textured all-over nub pattern worked on a stocking stitch background, while the ribbed lower edge, garter stitch front bands, collar and cuffs add definition without overpowering the design. The offset button fastening is an unexpected feature that gives the front a distinctive finish, completed with seven domed buttons.

The original pattern was worked in Femina Botany Fingering 4-ply, using approximately 8 oz (227 g) of yarn. You will also need a pair each of No. 11 (3 mm) and No. 9 (3.75 mm) knitting needles, together with seven buttons.

The original tension is 6½ stitches and 8 rows to 1 inch measured over the pattern on No. 9 (3.75 mm) needles.

The finished garment is designed to fit a 34–35 inch bust.
