A lovely 1940s twin set featuring a fitted, long-sleeved cardigan and matching short-sleeved jumper. Both garments combine neat ribbing with decorative cable panels, giving the set a smart, flattering finish. Perfect worn together or separately with a favourite skirt or pair of trousers.
Originally knitted in Lister Lavenda 3-ply wool, the pattern uses a combination of rib and cable stitches and is fairly straightforward for anyone familiar with these techniques.
The pattern is sized for a 34–36 inch bust, with a finished length of 18½ inches from the shoulder. The cardigan has 17½-inch sleeves, while the jumper has short 5-inch sleeves.
The original instructions specify UK No. 10 and No. 12 knitting needles, with a tension of 7½ stitches and 10 rows to 1 inch on No. 10 needles.
Modern fingering-weight yarn may be a suitable substitute for the original wool, although a tension swatch is recommended to ensure the correct fit.
