A versatile 1940s dress from the wartime rationing era, designed to be made in a shorter length for a pretty daytime tea frock or longer for a more elegant evening dress.
The dress has a two-part skirt that joins a shaped yoke at the back, while the two front sections feature gentle gathers into the shoulder yokes and at the centre bust, creating a softly shaped neckline. Pretty puff sleeves can be made either short or long, and a large bow at the centre back provides the finishing touch.
No fabric suggestions were given with the original pattern, but cottons, viscose or similar dressmaking fabrics would work well for the daytime version. For evening wear, satin, a softly draping viscose or even a non-stretch velvet would make a lovely choice.
To fit: Bust 34 inches (86.3 cm).
As with many sewing patterns from the 1940s, the original step-by-step instructions are fairly brief compared with modern patterns and assume some sewing knowledge. A period sewing guide is included to help with construction.
