1940s Fair Isle Twin Set Knitting Pattern – Cardigan and Jumper

A lovely 1940s twin set featuring a matching cardigan and jumper, both with a colourful Fair Isle yoke. The cardigan has long sleeves and a buttoned front, while the jumper has short sleeves, making this a versatile little set to wear together or separately.

Both garments are knitted in 3-ply wool, with the jumper slightly smaller than the cardigan for a comfortable fit when worn underneath. The cardigan’s Fair Isle design is worked from written instructions, while the jumper has a chart to follow.

The original yarn used was Sirdar Majestic Wool 3-ply. The cardigan requires 7 oz (200g) of the main colour, plus small amounts of contrasting colours for the Fair Isle. The jumper requires 5 oz (142g) of the main colour, again with oddments for the patterned yoke.

Measurements: Cardigan to fit a 35-inch bust. Jumper to fit a 34-inch bust.

Tension: 7½ stitches and 9 rows to 1 inch in stocking stitch on No. 9 (3.75mm) needles.
