Carefully restored reproductions of original designs, ready for today’s makers.
Price range: £3.99 through £7.99
This 1940s Fair Isle cardigan has a neat fitted shape, softly puffed shoulders and an all-over striped and geometric colourwork design. It fastens through the front with buttons and has deep ribbing at the cuffs and lower edge.
The original yarn was Patons Beehive Fingering 3-ply, worked on old UK No. 9 and No. 11 needles (approximately 3.75 mm and 3 mm).
No bust size is stated on the pattern, but the finished cardigan measures 33 inches (84 cm) around at the underarm. The length from the top of the shoulder is 19½ inches (49.5 cm), with a 17-inch (43 cm) sleeve measured from the underarm.
This is a fully written knitting pattern rather than a charted pattern. It is quite detailed, running to more than 15 pages of instructions, so there is plenty to work through, particularly for the Fair Isle sections.
