“Jeness” is a neat vintage knitted cardigan with a fitted, tailored shape and cable-bordered rib panels worked through the front, back and sleeves. It has a V neckline, seven-button fastening and a choice of long or short sleeves.
The mix of cable and rib gives the cardigan plenty of texture while keeping the overall design simple and wearable. The long-sleeved version has deep ribbed cuffs, while the short-sleeved version keeps the same cable detailing.
The finished cardigan measures approximately 33–34″ (84–86 cm) around the underarms and 19½″ (49.5 cm) from the shoulder. The long sleeve seam measures 18″ (45.5 cm) and the short sleeve seam 6″ (15 cm).
Originally knitted in 3-ply fingering wool, requiring approximately 7 oz (198 g) for the long-sleeved version or 6 oz (170 g) for the short-sleeved version.
The pattern uses old UK No. 9 (3.75 mm) and No. 10 (3.25 mm) knitting needles, together with a spare double-pointed needle for working the cables.
Tension: 7½ stitches to 1″ (2.5 cm).
