1950s Summer Top Knitting Patterns – Lace & Sleeveless, Bust 32–36

This late-1950s knitting pattern includes two different summer tops, both originally designed for 3-ply fingering yarn.

The first is a lace-stitch top with short raglan sleeves and a square neckline. The neckband is worked on double-pointed needles for a seamless finish.

The second is a sleeveless top worked in a textured pattern that creates vertical stripes, with the neckline and armholes finished in crochet.

Both were originally knitted in Robin Ny-lona Multiply or Merino 3-ply fingering.

The lace top requires approximately 6–7 oz (170–200 g) of yarn and uses old UK No. 10 (3.25 mm), No. 11 (3 mm) and five No. 12 (2.75 mm) double-pointed needles.

The sleeveless top requires approximately 5–6 oz (142–170 g), with old UK No. 10 (3.25 mm) and No. 12 (2.75 mm) needles and a fine crochet hook for finishing.

Three sizes are included, to fit bust measurements of 32, 34 and 36 inches.
