Vintage 1950s Bolero Knitting Pattern – Short or Long Sleeve, Three Sizes

A stylish and practical 1950s bolero knitting pattern featuring both short-sleeved and long-
sleeved variations. Described in the original publication as “the newest thing in boleros to
wear with your dolman-sleeved dresses,” this design perfectly captures the elegant
silhouette and versatility of mid-century fashion.

Measurements are designed to fit bust sizes 34″, 36″, and 38″, with an approximate length
from shoulder to lower edge of 16″, 16½”, and 17″ respectively.

For the long-sleeved bolero, approximately 8 (8, 9) ozs. of 3-ply knitting wool are required.
The short-sleeved version requires 7 (7, 8) ozs. of the same yarn. The original pattern specifies
Marriner’s “Heritage” 3-ply Shrink-less Botany Knitting Wool, together with one pair each of
No. 10 and No. 13 Milwards Phantom Knitting Needles. An evening version is also included,
requiring 1 (1½, 1½) ozs. of Marriner’s “Finessa” Fine 2-ply and one pair of No. 6 Milwards
Phantom Knitting Needles.

The tension is 7½ stitches and 10 rows to 1 inch over stocking stitch, and 5½ stitches and
7 rows to 1 inch over lace stitch.
