Ladies Fair Isle Cardigan Knitting Pattern – 1940s Three Colour Design

This Fair Isle cardigan features a clear, eye-catching pattern worked in three colours using 3-ply
fingering yarn. The darker borders help define the design and make the colour work stand out.
The pattern is worked from a chart and is easy to follow.

The original cardigan was knitted using Patons Beehive Fingering 3-ply in white, scarlet, and
navy. You’ll also need 3.25mm and 2.75mm needles and twelve buttons.

The finished size measures about 19½ inches long, with a 34-inch underarm fit and sleeves
measuring 17½ inches.

To get the correct size, it’s important to knit to a tension of 8 stitches per inch across
the width.
