These 1940s wartime ribbed stockings are a lovely, practical knit and a true reflection of make
-do-and-mend design. They use just 4oz (114g) of silk, making them economical as well as
quick and satisfying to knit. Worked on two needles, the pattern can also be knitted in 2-ply
yarn on No. 12 needles, exactly as it would have been during the wartime years.

The finished stockings measure 26½ inches from the top of the leg to the heel, with a
9½-inch foot length that can be easily adjusted for a comfortable fit.

Tension: 10 stitches to 1 inch, measured over un-stretched rib.
