1950s Double-Breasted Coat Sewing Pattern – Shawl Collar

This 1950s sewing pattern is for a double-breasted coat with a fitted waist and a full, flared shape through the skirt.

The coat has a wide shawl collar with a small notch, or the collar can be made entirely shawl-style if you prefer. Deep cuffs finish the sleeves, and the coat is fully lined.

Suitable fabrics include coating fabrics, velour, tweed and suiting, particularly those with enough body to hold the shape of the coat while still allowing some drape.

The pattern is for a 36-inch bust, 30-inch waist and 39-inch hip and is best suited to an intermediate sewer with some experience of garment construction.
