A charming vintage 1940s knitting pattern for a striped jumper in true wartime style. This
design can be worked with either short or long sleeves, making it a versatile and stylish
project for lovers of retro knitwear.
Yarn: Originally knitted in vintage 3-ply fingering yarn (Sun-Glo Shrink Proof or Sunbeam
Super – now discontinued). Modern fingering weight yarns can be used as a substitute.
Needles: Old UK sizes 10 & 12 (approx. 3.25mm & 2.75mm). Larger size worked on UK
size 9 (approx. 3.75mm).
Tension/Gauge: 7 stitches = 1 inch, 9 rows = 1 inch
Yarn Quantities (approximate):
Short Sleeve – 7 skeins (vintage skeins were around 1oz each – please check your
yarn yardage)
Long Sleeve – 9 skeins
Measurements: To fit 32–34″ or 36″ bust
Length from shoulder to hem: approx. 20″
Short sleeve seam: approx. 5″
