Vintage 1940s Men’s Lumber Jacket Knitting Pattern

Roomy and comfortable enough for both holidays and everyday wear, this practical lumber
jacket is worked in an eye-catching zig-zag stitch that gives it plenty of character. It features
a front zip fastening, a rolled collar that can be worn up or turned down depending on the
weather, and a ribbed welt that sits neatly and snugly at the waist.

The original pattern used 21 ozs. (approx 600g) of thick wool (“Knitfast” an Aran type),
along with a pair each of No. 5 (5.5 mm) and No. 8 (4 mm) knitting needles, plus a zip
fastener to fit the front.

Measurements: Length 23 inches, Chest 42 inches, Sleeve seam 21½ inches.

Tension: Using No. 5 needles – 9 sts. to measure 2 inches.
