A smart 1930s three-piece outfit comprising a colour-blocked jumper, a matching knitted skirt and a rather fetching crocheted hat. The jumper has a striking geometric design across the front, with contrasting sleeves and cuffs, while the plain, fitted skirt balances the look beautifully.
The jumper’s colour-block pattern is worked from a chart using 3.25mm (US No. 3) needles, while the skirt is knitted on circular needles. The matching hat is crocheted using a US No. 2 crochet hook.
The original yarn was Minerva Silver Crepe, a sport-weight 5-ply yarn. As always with vintage patterns, it’s worth knitting a tension swatch to check that your chosen modern yarn gives the correct results.
These patterns are certainly not for the faint-hearted! The colourwork and circular knitting will require patience and some experience, but the finished outfit would make a wonderful addition to a 1930s wardrobe. And of course, you could wear all three pieces separately.
Tension: 7 stitches to 1 inch.
Size: To fit a 34–36-inch bust.
Skill level: Experienced knitters, with crochet skills required for the hat.
