created to help supply essential garments for members of the Royal Air Force during World War II.
The patterns in this booklet were chosen and approved by RAF authorities, ensuring knitters could
produce practical garments that were most needed, while also making careful use of wool during
wartime shortages.
Inside you’ll find authentic patterns for a range of service knitwear including ribbed scarves, plain
socks, gum-boot stockings, pullovers, gloves, mittens, flying gloves, and helmet pieces. The booklet
also includes patterns for the W.A.A.F. (Women’s Auxiliary Air Force), such as sleeveless and long
sleeved pullovers, gloves, mittens, and scarves.
Both a useful pattern collection and a small piece of wartime history, this booklet offers a glimpse
into how knitters helped support RAF personnel during the war.
