1950s Turban Hat Sewing Pattern – Spiral Zipper Travel Hat

This 1950s sewing pattern is for an unusual turban-style hat with a spiral zipper forming the crown.

The zipper opens in a continuous spiral, rather like peeling an orange, allowing the hat to open out and pack flat for travelling. When worn, the zipper pull passes through a buttonhole at the front to secure the hat and become part of the design.

The hat is fully lined and requires relatively little fabric, making it an interesting small sewing project as well as a very clever piece of 1950s pattern design.

You’ll need approximately ½ yard of fabric, ½ yard of lining and one 30-inch zipper.
