This is one of those 1950s knitting designs where the details really make the jumper. The fitted body is worked with a deep, pointed contrast yoke and high neckline, while shaped tabs on the front and sleeves are finished with flat buttons. The cuffs are worked in the same horizontal rib as the yoke, giving the whole design a very neat, coordinated finish.
The decorative tabs appear on the front and sleeves only. The back is kept plain beneath the contrast yoke and has a zip opening at the neck.
Designed to fit a 34–36 inch bust.
The original pattern uses 4-ply wool, with approximately 11 oz (312g) in the main colour and 6 oz (170g) in a contrast colour. You will also need four flat buttons and an 8½ inch zip fastener.
Needles: Old UK No. 12 and No. 14 (approximately 2.75 mm and 2 mm)
Tension: 20 stitches = 2½ inches; 20 rows = 2¼ inches.
The two-colour design really shows off the shaped yoke and buttoned tabs. Choose similar shades for a softer look, or contrasting colours to make the details stand out.
