1950’s Shawl Collar Sweater Knitting Pattern in Four sizes

A distinctive 1950s sweater with a wide shawl collar, elbow-length Magyar sleeves and a softly shaped, easy-to-wear fit. The sweater is worked in two main pieces, with the sleeves incorporated into the body in the Magyar style.

Ribbed welts and a deep ribbed collar provide structure, while a raised stripe pattern adds texture across the main body of the sweater.

The original pattern uses Listers Lavendula DK, requiring approximately 14 oz (400 g) for the smallest size through to 17 oz (482 g) for the largest. You will also need a pair each of UK No. 10 (3.25 mm) and UK No. 7 (4.5 mm) knitting needles.

The pattern is written for four sizes to fit a 32″, 34″, 36″ and 38″ (81, 86, 91 and 97 cm) bust.

Tension: 6 stitches and 6 rows to 1″ (2.5 cm).
